Last updated on MAY 09, 2023

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager for Oracle Database - Version 12.1.0.6.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Metric alert for Database Instance "Tablespace Space Used (%)" in Enterprise Manager 12c
Metric alert for Cluster Database "Tablespace Space Used (%)" in Enterprise Manager 12c
This article also applies to Enterprise Manager 13c

Purpose

Starting with Enterprise Manager (EM) Cloud Control 12.1.0.4 (which ships with the database plug-in 12.1.0.6), there are some changes to the way metrics are evaluated. In the previous versions of Cloud Control some database metrics were evaluated by the server itself, via the server generated alert system, whereas some database metrics were evaluated by the agent. In 12.1.0.4 Cloud Control and higher, changes have been made so that any metric for which a threshold can be set in EM, will no longer rely on the server generated alert system, but will instead be evaluated by the EM agent. This change affects the 'Tablespace Space Full (%)' metric which was previously evaluated by the server generated alert system. In 12.1.0.4 (with database plugin 12.1.0.6), this metric will now be evaluated purely by the agent. This article is applicable to databases which are managed by 12.1.0.4 Cloud Control (or higher) and which are using the 12.1.0.6 database plugin (or higher). This article does not apply to earlier versions of Cloud Control.

This article will be useful for troubleshooting the Metric alert for Database Instance "Tablespace Space Used (%)"  in Enterprise Manager 12c and 13c

Purpose
Troubleshooting Steps
 A) Testing the 'Tablespace Space full (%)' metric in Enterprise Manager
 1) Check whether there are any active critical or warning alerts on the database.
 2) Simulate the query which the agent runs to retrieve this information
 3) Make a note of the values which should cause the metric to trigger
 4) Change the thresholds appropriately
 5) Force the metric to be collected
 6) Check whether the metric event alert is shown
 B) Troubleshooting the 'Tablespace Space Full (%)' metric in Enterprise Manager when alert is not received
 1) Confirm whether the event alert condition has occurred
 2) Check whether the agent has detected the event alert condition
 3) Check whether the OMS knows of the event alert
 4) Checklist if the Alert exists in "Open Metric Events" but expected notification was not received
 C) Troubleshooting the 'Tablespace Space Full (%)' metric in Enterprise Manager when alert is not cleared as expected.
 D) Troubleshooting the 'Tablespace Space Full (%) metric' when an alert is incorrectly raised (eg. tablespace is not as full as reported in EM)
