EM12c Exadata Discovery Fails: "The selected compute node is not an existing target managed by Enterprise Manager" (Doc ID 2154303.1)

Attempting to discover X5-2 Exadata system, the discovery fails on page "Database Machine Discovery: Components" with the following error:

The selected compute node is not an existing target managed by Enterprise Manager. Please add the compute node as managed target before you continue.

The compute node hosts are indeed listed in Cloud Control All Targets and are showing as a managed target with UP/Green status.

This is a virtualized rack where the agents are installed on the domU hosts or VMs. The compute nodes listed should be the physical dom0 hosts.

However there are two problems with the hosts listed on this page:

The compute nodes listed are not showing their fully qualified name - ie, only hostname, not hostname.####.com
There is no associated IP address with the listed Host Names
