EM 12c: Agent (Apparently) Updates oratab DB Oracle_Home Entry Incorrectly on Database Server Reboot, Preventing Database Autostart. (Doc ID 2169525.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 16, 2022

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager for Oracle Database - Version 12.1.0.7.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Enterprise Manager (EM) 12.1.0.5 Cloud Control monitoring (among others) a Solaris 10 (SPARC) host running five non-RAC 11.2 databases
(from the same Oracle Home, and using ASM).  These were all upgraded (one manually and the other four using DBCA) from 11.2.0.3.0 to 11.2.0.4.0.

However, every time the database server is rebooted, the oratab entry for only the manually upgraded database is changed back to the original
11.2.0.3 home, causing autostart of the database to fail.  A comment in the oratab file suggests it is the EM 12c Agent that has altered the registered value.

The oratab must be manually edited to reset it back to the 11.2.0.4 Oracle Home in order for the database to start.

Changes

Manual DB upgrade/migration from 11.2.0.3 OH to 11.2.0.4 OH.
