EM13c: Adding a Specific Metric Alert Event to an Incident Rule Triggers Error: java.lang.NullPointerException (Doc ID 2232662.1)

Symptoms

An Incident rule had been configured for one of the metrics by selecting only the 'Critical' severity.
When attempting to add the 'Warning' severity of the same metric, below error was reported:

 

 

Enterprise Manager 13c Cloud Control:  Creating or Editing an Incident Rule;

Under Rules -> Click on "Create" -> Select "Incoming events and updates to events" on the "Select Type of Rule to Create" screen -> Continue

Adding an event or an additional severity to the same event results in the following error:
