Goal

A Recovery Appliance Monitoring View (RAMV) target is a read-only monitoring target associated with a Recovery Appliance target and a specific Virtual Private Catalog (VPC) user on the Recovery Appliance. It restricts the view of Recovery Appliance monitoring data to only data related to the protected databases that are associated with the specific VPC user, so that data related to other protected databases and Recovery Appliance administrative data cannot be seen. Enterprise Manager (EM) users corresponding to specific VPC users on the Recovery Appliance can be given access to the associated RAMV targets instead of the top-level Recovery Appliance target, thereby ensuring they can only view data pertinent to the databases they manage.

The intended users of Recovery Appliance Monitoring Views are EM users that are Database Administrators (DBA) responsible for managing backups for databases protected by a Recovery Appliance. With the exception of the restricted monitoring view, access to an RAMV target is functionally equivalent to having view access to the top-level Recovery Appliance target. Since the RAMV is essentially a DBA-specific proxy for the associated Recovery Appliance target, an EM DBA user can specify an RAMV target as the destination when configuring a database to send backups and redo to a Recovery Appliance.
