Last updated on JULY 24, 2023

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager for Oracle Database - Version 13.5.0.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

This feature enable new Agent Preferred Connect Descriptor that allows a user to specify a custom connect string for an EM Agent to use to connect to a target database. This feature will provide the ability to override the default connect string used by the Agent that is derived from
the database host/port/SID, and will allow users to address the following database monitoring issues:

a.Users can specify a connect string that uses a Service Name when there is a need for monitoring the database using a Service Name instead of SID, such as when the USE_SID_AS_SERVICE parameter has been set in the database listener. (e.g., this setting is required by DB Service Firewall).
b.Users can specify a SCAN listener for RAC database monitoring.
c.In cases where the Agent can connect to the database only through a private (internal) hostname that is not resolvable from the OMS and which is different than the external hostname under which the database is discovered. This feature can be used to specify a connect string containing the private hostname or IP address that is resolvable from the Agent.
