How to Stage EM 10.2.0.1 or 11.1.0.1 Grid Control Downloaded Files for Installation

Goal
Grid Control downloads from OTN as multiple files of the form (following example is Linux x86-64 11.1.0.1.0):
GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_Linux_x86-64_1of3.zip
GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_Linux_x86-64_2of3.zip
GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_Linux_x86-64_3of3.zip
or from eDelivery as (following example is HP Itanium, 10.2.0.3.0):
DVD_1-B42544-01_1of3.zip
DVD_1-B42544-01_2of3.zip
DVD_1-B42544-01_3of3.zip
DVD_2-B42545-01.zip
These files must be decompressed and staged properly to allow successful installation.
This procedure describes a technique to accomplish this successfully.
Incorrect staging can lead to install-time errors such as:
OUI-10208: Unable to find the product files specified by the disk labeled 'Enterprise Manager Grid Control'. Unable to continue installation, please check the value specified in variable FROM_CD_LABEL matches with the value in file 'disk.label', or please check if the disk is accessible
or
OUI-10133: Invalid staging area. There area no top level components for IBM SP AIX available for installation in this staging area.
or
SEVERE: OUI-10133: Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for
Solaris Operating System (SPARC) available for installation in this staging
area.
