AS Console 10.1.3.0 Session Hangs when Deploying an Application (Doc ID 395430.1)

10g AS version 10.1.3.0.0

Oracle AS console appears to freeze at deployment time. The last messages shown on the console were the following:

"...

Binding web application(s) to site default-web-site begins...
Binding TestFaces web-module for application
TestFaces to site default-web-site under context root TestFaces"

There were not any error message  and if  another AS console session was opened (browser) it worked OK. So the AS console process did not freeze, the deployment session did not return any confirmation or error message.

This behavior was associated to errors found during the start up of the application.  The steps related to unpacking the ear and war file succeeded. Following an example of errors reported on start up step of the application:

log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader). 
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly. 
oracle.oc4j.admin.internal.DeployerException: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanDefinitionStoreException: Line 1 in XML document from ServletContext resource [/WEB-INF/log4j.properties] is invalid; nested exception is org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: <Line 1, Column 1>: XML-20108: (Fatal Error) Start of root element expected.
