Accessing Applications on Planning Server from Separate ODI Server fails: "com.hyperion.odi.planning.ODIPlanningException" (Doc ID 2009997.1)

Symptoms

Accessing Planning application(s) on a separate Planning Server from ODI on a different server, fails with:

"com.hyperion.odi.planning.ODIPlanningException: com.hyperion.odi.planning.ODIPlanningException: Could not connect the Planning instance on host [plan_host2.domain.local], port [11333], check if connect information is correct."

** firewall open
** 'telnet plan_host2.domain.local 11333'

successful

** rmitest plan_host2 11333
** rmitest xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 11333

fail with:

"NotBoundException: rmi://plan_host2.domain.local:11333/HspBeanFactory java.rmi.NotBoundException: HspBeanFactory"
