OBIEE 11g|12c: The Session Hangs With The "Searching" Message That Never Completes When An ORA-XXX Error Is Returned From The Database (Doc ID 2010928.1)

Symptoms

The following formula causes the browser to hang: day_of_year(cast('31-DE'||cast(year(NOW()) as char) as date))

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

The following error should occur:
[nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 1843, message: ORA-01843: not a valid month at OCI call OCIStmtFetch. [nQSError: 17012] Bulk fetch failed. (HY000)

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following:
1. Create the following formula on a column: day_of_year(cast('31-DE'||cast(year(NOW()) as char) as date))
2. The "Searching" message that never completes.

 
 

 Note: This may or may not occur with any ORA-XXXX error
