Purpose

To explain and clarify the following:

  • How Discoverer memory management works.
  • Why large swap files may be seen in the temporary directory.
  • Why some users may experience the following issues / errors:

    • Running a very large workbook with page items fails with error

    • Exporting a large workbook to MS Excel ends with: Export Failed.
    • Intermittent error 'Unexpected error in state machine: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError' in the application.log while running a worksheet.
  • Why you may get conflicting information from Oracle Support to raise or lower the memory settings.
