Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to create a datasource from Essbase Studio console to an Essbase Server that is set up with SSL, following message is displayed when clicking the "Test Connection" button:

Unable to establish a connection. Ensure that the server is running, the user name and password are correct and the other data fields match the server's configuration.

The Essbase Studio server.log file contains an error similar to the following:

[2019-01-08T12:21:31.452-06:00] [hyperion] [ERROR] [ESSSTD-127006] [com.hyperion.cp.datasources.export.essbase.util] [host: <essbase-hostname>] [nwaddr: <ip-adress>] [tid: <tid>] [userId: <username>] [ecid: <ecid>] [SRC_CLASS: com.hyperion.cp.datasources.export.essbase.util.EssbaseExportUtil] [SRC_METHOD: checkEssConnectionEx] Unable to establish connection to Essbase server.

Changes

The Java version used for the EPM System had been changed from the included Java 6 to Java 7 following KM Document "How to Configure an Existing EPM 11.1.2.4 With Java 7 (Doc ID 2351499.1)" and had also set up Essbase with SSL.
