Equipment setup allows for defaults values for primary identification numbers (equipment, unit or serial number), business unit values for depreciation, category codes, supplemental data, and maintenance loops.  Once the setup is complete, equipment can be entered to the system using the equipment master screen, P1702, and that will generate both an F1201 asset master record and an F1217 tag file record in releases beyond ERP8.0.  Once the equipment is entered to the system, there are a variety of options for utilizing, tracking and reporting equipment activities.  These include tracking equipment status, location, relationships, equipment parts lists, category code mapping from business unit to equipment, license and permit data and equipment messages.
