Purpose

Overview

A product may be made available in several different variations.  The system should support different product variations based on product attributes.  The product variations could include flavor and packaging, or style and size.  Each flavor, or size, is managed as a separate item but it shares the same business rules as its variations.

Enhancements introduced beginning with the 8.9 release provide a method to easily create and maintain different variations of the same product, simplified the order entry process for different variations of the same product and displays availability for different variations of the same product in a form that is better suited to multi-attribute items.

 Frequently Asked Questions
Question 1: How are items maintained using when both matrix and non-matrix items are used? Is there a conversion program to convert  regular items into matrix  items?
Question 2: Unable to inquire on Matrix parent item via the Item Master (P4101) application. Why?
Question 3: What happens when transferring a quantity via P4113 from a branch that has matrix item to a branch that does not have the matrix item setup?
Question 4:  Is it possible to use the matrix / segmented item template when creating and validating an item through the Item Master Inbound Transaction Process / R4101Z1I / P4101Z1?
Question 5: When entering an Intercompany Order for a Matrix Item, the Matrix Parent (Segment 1) value is populated in the Item Number Field along with the Quantity and a Supplying Branch Plant which is different from the Header Branch. After tabbing off the line and populating the matrix form, when returning to the Sales Order Detail Revisions screen, all of the Matrix Child Item lines in the grid are populated with the Header Branch Plant and not the Branch Plant that was manually entered. Why is not the Branch Plant manually entered on the line for Segment 1 returned as the Branch Plant for the child item numbers in the Sales Order Revision Screen?
Question 6: Can regular items be converted to matrix items when upgrading from ERP8 to 9.0? Because thousands of items are involved, a batch approach would be preferred rather than using the interactive programs. The customer is willing to write their own custom UBE if necessary to convert the data, but would like specific instructions regarding what fields need to be populated in which tables to convert the non-matrix data into matrix items?
Question 7:  While performing Matrix Item Maintenance Segment Selection (P410015) and clicking the radio button for one of the segments, why are some of the Matrix Sequence Numbers (MISQ) highlighted in gray?
Question 8:  When entering matrix items in P4210 it is expected the UOM will default from the P4210 processing option 7 "Override Transaction UOM".  How does this work?
Question 9: Is it possible to define a Price Adjustment Detail (P4072) Record based on the Parent Segment of a Matrix Item rather than to have to create one adjustment record for every full item number?
Question 10: Is it possible to use a Matrix Item as a kit component so when the kit parent is entered, the Kit Selection window brings up Component Parent Items for a Matrix Component?
Question 11. Can you create a work order for a Matrix Item
Question 12. Is it possible to use a matrix item as a non stock item?
