E1: INST: Updating the Tools Release to 9.2.6.x or Higher on One Foundation in a Multi-Foundation Causes the Other Foundation to Go Down. (Doc ID 2938481.1)

Last updated on APRIL 03, 2023

Applies to:

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools - Version 9.2 and later
IBM i on POWER Systems

Symptoms

In a multi-foundation setup on AS400 platform, when upgrading the tools release of one-foundation to 9.2.6.x or higher, the services on the other foundation fails and the below errors are seen in the kernel jde.log.

For the Zero Downtime deployment (starting from tools release 9.2.x), the Tools Upgrade process is supposed to make some configuration changes. The process rearranges the path code directories by creating a package name
directory under spec and bin64. The spec.ini file is also modified.

The issue occurs because the spec.ini file in the other foundation is modified causing errors for the lower tools release

Steps

  1. Update the tools release in one foundation of multi-foundation using the process mentioned in E1: TR: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release Upgrade on Enterprise Server Overview - 9.2.x [Video Presentation] (Doc ID 2085462.1)
  2. Check the services on the other foundation by running a porttest
