E1: 42: Sales Update (R42800) Ends in Error with Tax Area Invalid (0272) Error Message in Work Center When Processing a Non-Stock Sales Order With Non Shipment Date (Doc ID 2959971.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to process a non-stock item sales order thru sales update (R42800), the follow error below is displayed in work center

Error= 0272

CAUSE . . . . The tax area does not exist in the Tax Area Master file (F4008). A tax area having an effective date prior to the tax point date (service date) must exist in the Tax Area file.
RESOLUTION. . Change the service date if applicable or change the tax area to a valid tax area.
NOTE: The service date is not applicable in certain circumstances. For example; Supplier Master, Customer Master and Business Unit Revisions.

Steps:

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. P42101 - Enter a non-stock item sales order
  2. R42800 - Run sales update with following processing options
    Default TAB
    1. Specific Date as A/R Invoice Date - Blank
    2. Select Date Value as A/R Invoice Date set to value "2" (Ship Date)
    3. Specific Date as G/L Date = 06/30/2023
    4. Select Date Value as G/L Date set to "2" (Ship Date)
  3. Check the Work Center and see error - Tax Area Invalid
