Last updated on FEBRUARY 28, 2024

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to enter a Sales Order (P4210 or P42101) with the Inventory Commitment Preference Activated, if an item is ordered that does not have an Item Branch (F4102) record setup for the Header Branch the following error occurs.

Item Branch Record Does Not Exist (0294)
CAUSE. . . . . An Item Branch record (F4102) does not exist for this item in the Branch/Plant specified.
RESOLUTION . . Correct the Branch or enter an Item Branch record for this item in Branch Plant Item Information (P41026).

The issue was reproduced with the following steps:

  1. A new company was acquired with thousands of items.
  2. There are 10 Distribution Centers (Branch Plants) in the existing company that stock the new company items.
  3. The New Company Branch Plants sell the items, but they are not warehouses and they do not stock the inventory.
    1. The new Header (Sales) Branches are setup in the Branch Plant Constants (P41001) but no Item Branch Records (F4102) are setup for these header branch plants.
  4. The Inventory Commitment Preference is setup to direct the orders to be shipped by the existing 10 Distribution Centers (Branch Plants) and not the Header Branch Plants.
  5. The client creates an order as follows:
    1. The new Sales Office is entered in the Sales Order Header.
    2. The new Item is entered on the Sales Order Detail Line but no Branch Plant is entered.
    3. There is inventory for the item in the Inventory Commitment Preference Branches but not in the Header Branch Plant.
    4. The "Item Branch Record Does Not Exist" (0294) error is returned and the order cannot be completed.
  6. The order cannot be entered until an Item Branch (F4102) record has been added using the Item Branch Revisions (P41026) application.
  7. The client does not want to have to enter new item branch records for every new item brought in by this acquisition.
