E1:XPI.WSG: A BSFN Error JDE System Pauses 3 Minutes and Does not Return JDE Error to WSG: "the number of packets (5) is wrong, should be a multiple of 3." (Doc ID 782149.1)

Goal

We are using webMethods 6.5 with PSFT_E1_Adapter 8.94 connecting to JD Edwards 8.10, Tools release 8.96.
We are using the webMethods Integration Points created by Oracle (including the calls to JDE using the E1 Adapter Services) and in some cases are using our own webMethods flow services and E1 adapter services. We are using the Business Function template in the E1 adapter services.
When any business function is called and executed by our adapter service and it succeeds without error there is no issue. However when the business function returns an error, the following occurs: 1) the adapter service hangs webMethods for a period of 3 minutes. 2) the adapter service does not return the error information to webMethods (webMethods does not register the call as "failed" and a call to the webMethods service getLastError returns null). There should not be a 3-minute delay and error information should be returned. Please note that the jdedebug.log contains the suspicious entry as follows: "the number of packets (5) is wrong, should be a multiple of 3."
