Purpose
Overview
The Fixed Asset Projections program is used to calculate (forecast/estimate) future years' accumulated depreciation and depreciation expense records.
Once depreciation has been calculated for the current year or when there are Fixed Asset Account Balance F1202 records created from the Asset Account Balance Close (R12825) for the current year it can not be run on that year. To accommodate the need for current year amounts, some companies will copy their production data to test and run regular depreciation in their test environment to obtain these numbers. Once the numbers have been verified and are no longer needed, the test environment can be removed. If users select final depreciation (i.e. Processing Option #2 on the Process tab is set to "1" - Final Depreciation), it can only be run for one year. Final depreciation cannot be processed for future years when using the Depreciation Projections program.
Another option is to run depreciation in preliminary in the production environment for period 12 and pull the numbers from the User Defined Depreciation R12855 report. The amounts calculated for period 12 when run in preliminary will only be the final amount of depreciation and will not have the amounts broken down by the individual period. However, if the Initial Term of Apportionment is "P" Current Period is being used, this isn't an option, since the system will only calculate period 12's depreciation and not the periods in between.
The Depreciation Projections program (R12865) uses the standard User Defined Depreciation Program (R12855) and standard Asset Account Balance Close Program (R12825) to calculate the needed values. Once the processing options are set on the R12865, and the data selection is set for the R12855 and R12825 the R12865 Depreciation Projections can be run.
Before the data selection can be entered, the criteria for such selection must be decided. Therefore, review selection criteria such as what company will be processed, what ledger type will be used, and any other important processing information. This is a critical step, since the projections program uses the data selection from the R12855 and R12825, and the processing options from the R12865. The data selection for the R12855 and R12825 must be identical.
