How to Hide Messages when using a Script File? (Doc ID 1015399.6)

Goal

Calling a script file from within another program and do not want the messages scrolling up the screen.

Even when the call is from the command line, the messages appear.

1. Why is the "- silent" command not working?
2. How can you stop the display output from the command file in sqlplus?
