Not Able to Generate PCL Printer Output After Updating Uiprint.txt Configuration File (Doc ID 1064339.1)

Last updated on APRIL 19, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Reports Developer - Version 10.1.2.0.0 to 10.1.2.3 [Release 10gr2]
Oracle Forms for OCI - Version 12.2.1.4.0 and later
Generic UNIX

Symptoms

Trying to generate PCL printer output on Unix is not working and the report output is being generated using PostScript.

The following is the configuration on the server.
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh
REPORTS_NO_DUMMY_PRINTER=TRUE; export REPORTS_NO_DUMMY_PRINTER
TK_PRINT_STATUS='echo %n is valid'; export TK_PRINT_STATUS
TK_PRINT=lp -s -d'%n'; export TK_PRINT
TK_PRINTER=printer1; export TK_PRINTER
PRINTER=printer1; export PRINTER

$ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/uiprint.txt
# Not A Printer:ASCII:1:Configure your uiprint.txt file:none:
printer1:PCL:5:High Speed printer:ui4.hpd:

When running a report using desname=printer1, the report output is still created using PostScript.
When checking the Report cached output file, the following is seen in the eps file.

Changes

$ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/uiprint.txt was modified and ui4.hpd file was added to the printer entry.
