Creating Reports Server Component Fails With oracle.as.config.impl.SimpleProvisionException: Invalid component name (Doc ID 1218563.1)

Symptoms

When configuring Forms and Reports 11g the forms configuration completes without error.

However, the Reports Server configuration fails.
The Error reported to install<date/time_stamp>.out is:

oracle.as.config.impl.SimpleProvisionException: Invalid component name: ReportsServer_myhostnam.do  (Component name must begin with an alphabetic character; may only contain alphanumeric characters, or the underscore (_) or hyphen (-) characters; and must be 4 to 30 characters long.)

Note the reported host name 'host.do' is truncated. (In the example it should be hostname.domain)
