Symptoms

Intermittent login problems are occurring when accessing an application protected by Oracle Access Manager (OAM) 11g.

The application is accessed via two or more load-balanced WebGates.

Sometimes login works without problems, but other times after submitting credentials in the OAM 11g login page there is continuous looping between the protected resource and OAM 11g server until the browser detects the problem and produces an error.

The HTTP Header trace shows looping between http://<OAM_HOSTNAME>:<PORT>/oam/server/obrareq.cgi and http://<APP_HOSTNAME>/obrar.cgi.

Safari browser eventually errors out with message:

Safari can't open the page.
Too many redirects occurred trying to open "http://<APP_HOSTNAME>/obrar.cgi?cookie=......
This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.

Steps to reproduce

1. Access http://<APP_HOSTNAME>/<PROTECTED_RESOURCE>
2. User is redirected to the OAM 11g login page and submits credentials.
3. After a pause, the browser displays error 'Safari can't open the page'.
