ClassCastException Reported In ADF Portlet Producers in High-Availability and Clustered Environments (Doc ID 1324549.1)

Symptoms

A number of portlets, each within its own ear file.  These portlets were created in JDeveloper by portletizing ADF/JSF-based applications then  deployed these to a portlet producer cluster managed server.
The following error shows up in the managed server log:

[BEA-101020] ... Servlet failed with Exception[[
java.lang.ClassCastException: com.sun.faces.config.WebConfiguration
at com.sun.faces.config.WebConfiguration.getInstance(WebConfiguration.java:154)
at com.sun.faces.context.ExternalContextImpl.<init>(ExternalContextImpl.java:128)
at com.sun.faces.context.FacesContextFactoryImpl.getFacesContext(FacesContextFactoryImpl.java:108)
at org.apache.myfaces.portlet.faces.context.FacesContextFactoryImpl.getFacesContext(FacesContextFactoryImpl.java:76)
at oracle.portlet.bridge.adf.context.ADFPortletFacesContextFactoryImpl.getFacesContext(ADFPortletFacesContextFactoryImpl.java:36)
