Goal

There are occasions when it is a requirement to install Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMW) 11g products on servers with multiple network cards (NICs). This is sometimes called a multi-homed computer.

On such a multi-homed computer, there may be a requirement to bind the installation and configuration of  FMW 11g to a specified host name, which is not the primary/default NIC of the server.

In this case there is an assumption that this secondary host name and corresponding IP address are permanently assigned to a specific NIC on one server. This note does not concern floating VIPs in High Availability scenarios.

Equally, this note is not intended to address the configuration of a virtual host, say for Oracle HTTP Server, where the physical listen address is still bound to the default/primary NIC.

What are the steps to install and configure Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g products against the desired NIC?
