Oracle HTTP Server Start Fails With Error "No SSL Wallet [hint: SSLWallet]" When Configure Port 443 To Use HTTP Protocol (Doc ID 1356648.1)

Last updated on MARCH 20, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle HTTP Server - Version to [Release Oracle11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The aim is to configure the default HTTPS port 443 to serve requests over HTTP

When port 443 is configured as an HTTP port the Oracle HTTP Server fails to start via OPMN displaying the following errors:

> INSTANCE_HOME/bin/opmnctl startproc ias-component=<ohs_component>
opmnctl startproc: starting opmn managed processes...
opmn id=<HOSTNAME>:<PORT>
0 of 1 processes started.

ias-instance id=instance1

--> Process (index=1,uid=<UID>,pid=23128)
failed to start a managed process after the maximum retry limit

Processes in Instance: instance1
ias-component | process-type | pid | status | uid | memused | uptime | ports
webcache1 | WebCache-admin | N/A | Down | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A
webcache1 | WebCache | N/A | Down | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A
ohs1 | OHS | N/A | Down | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A

INSTANCE_HOME/diagnostics/logs/OHS/ohs1/ohs1.log displays the following errors:

[2011-08-22T13:27:39.0003+01:00] [OHS] [ERROR:32] [OHS-2016] [mod_ssl.c] [host_id: <HOSTNAME>:<PORT>] [host_addr: <IP>] [pid: <PID>] [tid:
<TID>] [user: <ROOT_USER>] [VirtualHost: main] No SSL Wallet [hint: SSLWallet]

If the port is modified to another value, e.g. 442, Oracle HTTP Server starts successfully and requests are served successfully.

Setting SSLWallet to a dummy value and the port back to 443 allows the Oracle HTTP Server to be started but OHS still treats the requests as HTTPS and garbage is returned to the browser.

a) Add the following virtualhost configuration to INSTANCE_HOME/config/OHS/ohs1/httpd.conf to replicate the issue:

Listen <IP>:443

NameVirtualHost <IP>:443

<VirtualHost <IP>:443>
ServerName <HOSTNAME>

b) Restart HTTP_Server using:

INSTANCE_HOME/bin/opmnctl stopproc ias-component=ohs1
INSTANCE_HOME/bin/opmnctl startproc ias-component=ohs1
