Exalogic Compute Node Stuck At GRUB Linux Boot Sequence (Doc ID 1370639.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 10, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software - Version 1.0.0.0.0 to 1.0.0.2.4
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

The Exalogic Compute Node was getting stuck at the GRUB Linux boot sequence. The problem presented on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5, but this can happen on any OEL version.
It was getting stuck in the init script, asking "press any key to continue" not allowing the normal boot sequence to proceed and complete the boot sequence. The message "press any key to continue" was not seen at the ILOM Console, it was only viewable when a Laptop was connected directly to the Compute Node to monitor the Boot Sequence, so basically at the ILOM Console the Boot Sequence was not moving forward, giving the impression of that it was in frozen status.
After pressing any key the boot sequence resumed and continued normally, but this is not desired because the Compute Node cannot boot unattended.

Screenshot at the ILOM Console:

Changes

Linux GRUB timeout setting was modified, and prevented the unattended Boot to complete.
