There is No Way to Force Users to Select a Content Profile when Uploading Files (Doc ID 1383715.1)

Last updated on JULY 26, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.4.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Following the documentation at:
41.11.1 Uploading New Files of Oracle® Fusion Middleware User's Guide for Oracle WebCenter Spaces 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.4.0)

It describes "Upload Profile" functionality, according to the selected content profile, an iFrame from UCM opens, allowing the end user to enter values for the metadata associated with this content profile.
When an user arrives on the page shown on Fig 41-36 of the User's Guide, the users often do not see the list box "Upload Profiles" which is filled with the value <none>.

They first enter the file name and the Description field, and afterwards, they select the profile.
When selecting the profile, an iFrame opens and they have to enter again the file name together with the profile metadata, so essentially the details that they had entered disappear.

So the preferred scenario is the following:

On the Upload Document screen only display the list box Upload Profiles with no choice selected.

When the user selects the profile <none>, only then the lower part of the page is displayed (file name and description field).
When the user selects another profile, then the corresponding iFrame is displayed with the corresponding metadata.
By doing so, the user is prompted to select the content profile before doing anything else. And the choice will not be <none> because there is no pre-selected value.

It is understood that other customers may prefer the current behavior, so the suggestion is to make this behavior configurable, so that the administrator of Spaces can select from the 2 different approaches.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Click on Upload button in the Document Explorer task flow.
2. Notice that the Upload Document screen appears with an LOV (List of value) for Upload Profiles, with <None> pre-selected and below there are 5 instances of Document to Upload and Description.
3. Choose some files and specify description to them.
4. Change the Upload Profile

Notice that the documents and descriptions entered are lost and it shows the metadata fields specific to the selected UCM Profile.
