Analytics for WebCenter and Spaces Does Not Support Clustered Collectors (Doc ID 1411470.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 03, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Portal - Version 11.1.1.4.0 to 11.1.1.6.6 [Release 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The Oracle Fusion Middleware Administrator's Guide for Oracle WebCenter 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.5.0) document, Section 13.4 Configuring Analytics Collector Settings, explains how to configure the Analytics Collector for clustering. Unfortunately, you cannot currently cluster the Analytics collector instances. You can use Analytics collectors to gather event data from all WebCenter Portal/Spaces instances in a cluster, but each instance can only communicate to one dedicated Analytics collector instance on the same machine. All of these Analytics collectors write events from all Portal/Spaces instances to the same database so that all of the data is gathered there. So while Analytics collectors themselves cannot be clustered for load balancing and failover, they can work with an HA, clustered WebCenter Portal environment.

The product release notes explain this detail:
6.4.5.4 Clarification of the Procedure for Configuring the Analytics Collectors:

"...for Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.4.0), clustered analytics collectors are not supported for collecting WebCenter events."

The Oracle Fusion Middleware Enterprise Deployment Guide for Oracle WebCenter 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) Part Number E12037-05 also mentions this:
6.16 Configuring the Analytics Collectors:

"Note:
Clustered Analytics Collectors are not supported for collecting WebCenter events."
