asset:save does not save changes made to asset loaded with asset:load (Doc ID 1439086.1)

Symptoms

asset:load is used to load an asset object. Changed are made to the asset, for example by using asset:set to set the value of an attribute.  Then asset:save tag is called, but the changes made using asset:set are not reflected in the asset.
