The Network Adapter could not establish the connection Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException When Connecting to a RAC Database Using JDBC (Doc ID 1456259.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 30, 2023

Applies to:

JDBC - Version 11.2.0.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A new client host using JDBC 11.2.0.3 was added to a set of other existing client hosts for connection to an Oracle RAC database. After running successfully for a while, the following errors started to be seen:

java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: <host.domain>

The problem is limited to the new client - other hosts work fine, and batches that run fine on other hosts fail on the new host. No problems have been seen on the database.

Changes

New client host was introduced for connection to an Oracle RAC database.
