Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2016

Applies to:

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On Oracle GlassFish Server 3.1.2 with Comet feature enabled, some of the HTTP response seem to return HTTP Error code 501 (Method is not defined in RFC 2068 and is not supported by the Servlet API). And example of this is:

HTTP/1.1 501 Method ET is not defined in RFC 2068 and is not supported by the Servlet API
  X-Powered-By: Servlet/3.0 JSP/2.2 (Oracle GlassFish Server 3.1.2 Java/Sun
  Microsystems Inc./1.6)
  Server: Oracle GlassFish Server 3.1.2
  Content-Type: text/html
  Content-Length: 1309
  Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2012 02:59:39 GMT
  Connection: close

It is seen that the access log also register an illegal method like "ET" or "OST" while the actual method submitted are "GET" or "POST" respectively.
