Is it Possible to Reverse or "UnExtend" a WLS Domain Extension? (Doc ID 1463751.1)

Last updated on MARCH 22, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3.1 and later
Oracle Fusion Middleware - Version 11.1.1.2.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

It is common to extend an existing Oracle Weblogic (WLS) domain for additional products, such as when configuring Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMW) products.

For example:

If installing a typical FMW deployment, a WLS domain is extended with the minimal EM and JRF templates.  Or an Oracle Forms domain may be extended with Discoverer; an Identity Management domain can be extended with Oracle Identity Federation (OIF). Using FMW products is a good example where oracle_common is introduced, but its also a limitation on WLS standalone, for example "Weblogic Advanced Web Services for JAX-WS Extension" and "Weblogic Advanced Web Services for JAX-RPC Extension" is a common extension.

Note it must be verified which products and versions are supported together before doing so. Mistakes can occur, and need to rollback arises because of issues. Or, you realize afterwards you would rather keep the original domain as the default for other applications. Thus the question:

Is it Possible to Reverse or "Un-Extend" a WLS Domain Extension?
