OVD 11g: Modifying An Active Directory Password Through An OVD Adapter Fails With "unwilling to perform" or With No Error Messages (Doc ID 1469516.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 30, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Virtual Directory - Version 11.1.1.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

An OVD adapter is configured with Active Directory as the backend.

When  navigating via ODSM to an Active Directory user by means of the DIT structure created by the adapter and trying to modify the user's password, two behaviors are observed:

1) An “unwilling to perform” error appears on then screen as soon as the new password value is entered.

2) No error message appears on the screen but the password is not effectively changed in Active Directory.

In one case, two adapters were created with AD as the backend using the following templates: OAM with mapper and OAM with SSL and mapper.

With the first adapter users' passwords could not be changed and the “unwilling to perform” error appeared. Consequently, all attempts to change the password via OAM failed too.

However, perfroming the same operation through the second adapter worked fine.
