Deleted Content Items Still Appearing in Search Results

Information in this document applies to any platform.
In the WebCenter Content application, after searching for content and clicking on the information button (i.e. the 'i' button), the following error is thrown:
Content Server Request Failed
The content item 123456' (xxxx) no longer exists in the system
This only happens for a small number of items within the application, but this particular one should not be returned in the results as it was deleted.
