Symptoms

While in Admin Server, the all servers page shows some, or all, servers as 'Unknown Status' (all icons are either grayed-out, or all are "hot/active" at the same time).

If you try to perform an action on a server, like Start, an error like the following is thrown:

!csAdminUnableToAlterProcess!csAdminUnableToExecAction,start,SomeNode-SomeCluster
intradoc.common.ServiceException: !csAdminUnableToAlterProcess!csAdminUnableToExecAction,start,SomeNode-SomeCluster
An error has occurred. The stack trace below shows more information.

While logged-into the Windows server as the same user ID that is used to run Content Server and its Admin Server (the Logon User for the Windows Services for the IDC xxxx services), you can try the following command in a Windows Command Prompt, which for this issue, resulted in a Windows operating system error:

\\server\share\ucmpath\admin\bin\NtProcCtrl.exe stop IdcContentService <service name>         (where <service Name exactly matches that specified in the Windows Servces' Properties)

Windows error: Can not connect to the services control database.
