Error Committing to UCM 11g: "java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out" (Doc ID 1542748.1)

Symptoms

A persistent error started appearing when committing batches to UCM 11g after the system had worked for a period of time:

***Error*** Failed to process batch 08931071_08931141. Error Number: 40008, Error: Failed to commit batch (with delete). Commit Profile - UCM 11g: The following error was reported by ReleaseDocument. Error Number: 20004 Error Description: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

 This happened every time a batch was committed until the UCM server was restarted. After the UCM 11g system was restarted the error was sporadic.
