How To Display Whitespace / Carriage Return / Newline Characters For Memo Fields In Content Information Page (Doc ID 1548966.1)

Last updated on MAY 03, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Content - Version 11.1.1.6.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

When inserting preformatted text in a memo field (e.g. "Comments") containing carriage return / newline ("enter") characters or TABs and ordinary (white)spaces, the memo value shown on the Content Information page will collate & wrap everything together. For example, double (or more) spaces within text are collapsed to a single space and carriage returns collapsed to 1 space.

This is typical for markup languages such as HTML which treat (white)space characters specially and may cause all formatting in the text to be ignored.

This document explains how to customize WebCenter Content so that the content information page displays memo values while keeping the original formatting.
