Purpose

This note will show you how to use basic spreadsheet functions to analyse the access logs of Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) in order to understand the nature of a performance problem.  The examples below uses Microsoft Excel, but any spreadsheet software program could be used which has similar functionality.

The examples demonstrate a performance issue that appeared within an Oracle Portal/Java Application system but the techniques can be applied to any system that uses OHS in the Web Tier.
