Delay Is Seen In Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server When Forwarding Requests To Backend Origin Server

Symptoms
There is a consistent delay of about 50 seconds for users coming from a specific site when accessing backend content via the proxy server. For users from other sites they do not experience any delay.
Truss against the iPlanet Web Proxy Server process is taken when the issue is occuring. The truss shows the door_call has slept 49 seconds:
