Two Different Portal Desktops with the Same URL Corrupt the Portlet Preferences of the Same Admin Portlet Instance (Doc ID 1567687.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 04, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Portal - Version 10.3.5 to 10.3.5 [Release AS10gR3]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

If two WebLogic Portal (WLP) Desktops have the same URL and use the same admin instance portlet, then the portlet preferences added to the second Desktop only show on the portlet of the first Desktop. This disallows setting portlet preferences on the same portlet in two different Portals.

STEPS:
--------

  1. Create a WLP application and deploy it in a WLP domain
  2. Open the Portal Administration Console and create two new Portals from the same '.portal' file
  3. Let the partial URL be same for both the Desktops as shown below
    1. Desktop Title --> TestPortal1
    2. Partial URL --> desktop
      http://<HOST>:7001/WLPWEB/appmanager/TestPortal1/desktop
    3. Desktop Title --> TestPortal2
    4. Partial URL --> desktop
      http://<HOST>:7001/WLPWEB/appmanager/TestPortal2/desktop
  4. Navigate to the Portlet available on TestPortal1 and create a new Portlet preference
  5. Then navigate to the same Portlet on TestPortal2 and create a new Portlet preference
  6. Note that the Portlet preference on TestPortal2 is not saved; however the Portlet preference of TestPortal1 is updated with this new preference
