Site Plan issues after upgrading from 11.1.1.6.0 to 11.1.1.8.0 (Doc ID 1581492.1)

Symptoms

After upgrading to 11.1.1.8.0 , The site plan got corrupted. It is not possible to expand it nor to place pages.

The following error is shown in the UI when placing a page:
Unable to load /cs/ContentServer?pagename=fatwire%2Fui%2Fcontroller%2Fcontroller&elementName=UI%2FActions%2FTree%2FPlacePagestatus:500

And this is shown in the logs when placing a page in the SitePlan:
