Symptoms

A parent folder exists with metadata values set from the Edit -> Metadata Values form.

A subfolder exists inside this parent folder, with different metadata values set from the Edit -> Metadata Values form.

If you navigate into the subfolder, select Edit -> Folder Information on the subfolder, and then click Save without changing anything, the metadata values are changed on the subfolder. Looking at Edit -> Metadata Values on the subfolder after doing this shows the values have changed on the subfolder, and they now show the values from the parent folder rather than the values that had been set on the subfolder.
