Printing Fonts in Oracle Developer Reports on UNIX
(Doc ID 163244.1)
Last updated on OCTOBER 12, 2023
Applies to:
Oracle Reports Developer - Version 6.0.8 to 10.1.2.3 [Release 6.0.8 to 10gr2]Oracle Forms for OCI - Version 12.2.1.4.0 and later
Generic UNIX
Purpose
When running a report from a Windows O/S, the font is pulled from the Windows O/S and then downloaded to the printer.
However, the same is not true when running a report from Unix. There is not a printer driver on Unix so Reports uses:
.PRT file for Character-Mode
installed fonts in X-Windows
to ensure the required font is printed.
Not all fonts from a Windows environment will work with Unix. All the fonts are not compatible, which is why uifont.ali exists - to alias the fonts from Windows to Unix.
However, those with the same font name on both Windows and Unix will work, e.g. Times Roman, Courier
Scope
What Oracle Support can help with are things like editing the uifont.ali and uiprint.txt. We can perhaps try to assist with the .PRT file(s) but do not support it; check with your printer vendor. Do remember though to take a backup of any of these files before attempting to edit them Oracle can't help with things like installing fonts as these are O/S specific, and needs special Unix experience. Therefore, the O/S vendor will need to be contacted.
