Server Returned HTTP Response Code: 500 and HTTP-503 Error Downloading WebCenter Spaces Resource Using JDeveloper (Doc ID 1644177.1)

Symptoms

This problem is seen when trying to download a Spaces resource directly into JDeveloper from within the WebCenterSpacesResources project.

Steps To Reproduce:

Oracle® Fusion Middleware Developer's Guide for Oracle WebCenter Portal 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.7.0)
Section 55.3.4.1 Downloading a Spaces Resource Directly into JDeveloper

  1. Open DesignWebCenterSpaces.jws in JDeveloper.
  2. Navigate to WebCenterSpacesResources.
  3. Right click -> Download Portal Resource from Server.
  4. Enter login credentials and download a resource.
    This works on the first attempt, but all subsequent attempts fail with this error:

    Exception getting resources: Server returned HTTP response code:
    503 for URL:
    http://<HOST>:<PORT>/rest/api/resourceIndex

 

The response code HTTP-500 is also seen in the JDeveloper logs, for example:
