Webutil Demo with No Jacob Dependency/ No OLE Features (Doc ID 1644754.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 14, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Forms - Version 10.1.2.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

The main purpose is to provide the Webutil Demo with no dependency on Jacob.   All Webutil Demo features are available except for OLE functions.

A secondary purpose is for diagnostics.

Note that this Demo was created in 10gR2 but should also work in 11g and 12c versions of Forms.

Note also that Premier Support of all versions of Forms other than 12c has ended.  See page eight of the Lifetime Support document.

Scope

The intended audience are those familiar with Forms such as Forms Developers.

The attached webutil demo is exactly like the one on OTN with the exception that all jacob related (OLE) functions and references have been removed.

Microsoft OLE functions are used primarily in Forms by Forms Developers who wish to interact with Microsoft applications such as Word or Excel from Forms.  If there is no need to do this, then there is no reason to accomplish the jacob.jar configuration steps that are needed to enable OLE features as detailed in <Note 1093985.1>.  The standard webutil_demo Form on OTN has an OLE dependency which has been removed in this version of the demo.

This demo Form can also be used for diagnostic purposes even when OLE functionality is the ultimate goal.  If configuring/running the standard webutil_demo causes errors that are difficult to diagnose, then setting up this demo can help in determining whether or not the errors are related to jacob.jar, the signing of jacob.jar or even the interaction of jacob.jar with other custom jar files.

This demo is written in 10gR2 and will function in that version and higher versions.  However, since 10gR2  and 11g have entered Sustaining Support status, the demo is primarily intended to be run in 12c installations. The steps listed below are for 12c Forms. Customers are encouraged to upgrade to a fully supported version of Forms such as 12c if on an earlier version.
