Controlled DR Tests Using Dataguard with Goldengate in the Mix (Doc ID 1672938.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 30, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle GoldenGate - Version 11.2.1.0.5 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

We have couple of applications where we have Goldengate configured for one-way replication. The Source and Target DB's have their own separate DR Standby Databases configured using DG. We have been doing controlled DR tests, yearly basis to validate the DB and Application components. Now with Goldengate, we want to see what options available and what would be the steps involved.

Assuming that GoldgenGate Target DB (having Primary and Standby Database configured under Dataguard for High Performance) is going for DR tests, will the following steps help..

- Stop the Goldengate Pump on Source gracefully. Stop Goldgengate all components on Target DB
- Switchover the Databases.
- On Source, update the Pump Parameter file to point to new Standby Server.
- Since all the s/w is pre installed and Replicat Parameter files are copied on Standby Server, Start Goldengate Components.
- Start the Pump Pump.

Are the above steps enough?! Do we need to include anything else? Pls advise.
