Getting ORA-03113 Error When Connecting To OVD Server(s) Through A VIP (Doc ID 1674252.1)

Last updated on MARCH 06, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Virtual Directory - Version 11.1.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Enabled EUS on Oracle db servers using OVD. Two OVD servers configured to work with Active Directory (Windows 2008R2).

When an Oracle db server is configured (in ldap.ora) to connect to one of the two OVD servers, e.g. "DIRECTORY_SERVERS= (<OVD_HOSTNAME>:<PORT>:<SSL_PORT>)", everything works fine.

A VIP is created to front the two OVD servers for load balancing and redundancy.  <PORT> and<SSL_PORT> are opened on the VIP.  Changing the configuration in ldap.ora to point to the VIP, e.g. "DIRECTORY_SERVERS= (<VIRTUAL_HOSTNAME>:<PORT>:<SSL_PORT>)" the following occurs:

ERROR:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Process ID: 0
Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0

Running netstat on the OVD servers, we find connections established on port <SSL_PORT> from the source db server(s). also, telneting to the VIP on port <SSL_PORT establishes a connection.
Disabling one OVD server on the VIP, leaving only one OVD server associated with the VIP. Still getting the same error.
