Upgradeconfig Fails With "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" (Doc ID 1900691.1)

Symptoms

Upgradeconfig runs out of memory during an upgrade from a large OEG 11.1.1.6.1 or OAG 11.1.2.1.0 configuration to 11.1.2.2.0.

 

Example error from an upgrade of 11.1.1.6.1 to 11.1.2.2.0:

# ./upgradeconfig -d  <PATH>/enterprisegateway -o /<PATH>/upgraded
[...]
ERROR  <TIMESTAMP> [<THREAD ID>]  java exception:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
