Unable to View, Edit, Delete or Take Offline a Portal in WebCenter Portal (Doc ID 1914117.1)

Symptoms

Unable to View, Edit, Delete or Take Offline a Portal.

 

ERROR

Errors might be slightly different depending the version of WebCenter Portal and root cause of the issue (missing MDS files).

 

Here are some examples:

When attempting to View, Edit or Administer the Portalone of the following error occurs:

Internal Error

or

PortalTest is no longer available.
The portal might have been deleted or renamed.

 

When attempting to delete the Portalone of the following errors occurs:

Messages for this page are listed below.
WCS#2015.04.24.15.00.40: Unable to delete selected Space(s).
WCS#2015.04.24.15.00.40: Updates or deletes are being performed on Space TestPortal by another Moderator. Please try again after some time.

or

WCS#2017.01.17.11.24.11: Portal operation resulted in unexpected exception.

 

When attempting to take Offline the Portalthe following error occurs:

WCS#2015.04.24.15.01.25: Unable to to perform the operation on the selected Space(s) due to unknown errors
WCS#2015.04.24.15.01.25: Few of the mandatory resource(s) are in use. Please try again later.

  

The Spaces diagnostic log shows one of the the following errors (where TestPortal is the name of the affected Portal):

Caused by: oracle.mds.persistence.DocumentNotFoundException: MDS-00574: The document /oracle/webcenter/framework/scope/scopedMD/TestPortal/scope.xml does not exist in the configured metadata store.

Caused by: oracle.mds.core.MetadataNotFoundException: MDS-00013: no metadata found for metadata object "/oracle/webcenter/space/metadata/spaces/TestPortal/space.xml"

 


STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Connect to WebCenter Portal as an administrator user.
     
  2. Navigate to the affected Portal.
    This will returns one of the following errors:

        Internal Error (WCS#...)

    or

        PortalTest is no longer available.
        The portal might have been deleted or renamed.
     
     
  3. Go to WebCenter Portal Administration -> Portals.
     
  4. Select the Portal and try to Edit.
    This will returns one of the following errors:

       Internal Error (WCS#...)

    or

       PortalTest is no longer available.
       The portal might have been deleted or renamed.

     
  5. Select the Portal and try to delete.
    This will return one of the following errors:
     
    Error
    Messages for this page are listed below.
    WCS#2015.04.24.15.00.40: Unable to delete selected Space(s).
    WCS#2015.04.24.15.00.40: Updates or deletes are being performed on Space TestPortal by another Moderator. Please try again after some time.

    or


    WCS#2017.01.17.11.24.11: Portal operation resulted in unexpected exception.
     
     
  6. Select the Portal and try to get offline.
    This returns the following error:
